IT and Telecoms sectors 'to get job boost'
17 February 2010
Those searching for
commercial sales jobs in IT and telecoms may be encouraged to learn that the UK could benefit from a boost in this sector due to the global space initiative, it has been suggested.
In order to cope with ambitious plans for growth, a 20-year strategy, 2010-2030, has been proposed that could see 100,000 jobs created in Britain.
Research recently carried out by e-skills UK has shown that the IT and Telecoms workforce has grown at twice the average rate in the last eight years - it now stands at 1.1 million people.
The Space Innovation and Growth Strategy document noted that the space industry is somewhat of a secret success, as figures released have shown that it contributed £5.6 billion to UK gross domestic product in 2007 and provided over 19,100 direct jobs.
With one of the largest satellite broadcasters in the world, in the shape of BSkyB, the UK will be major opportunities in the telecoms arena, according to the report.
