IT services 'important for recovery'

Stian Westlake, executive director of policy and research at the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta), noted that software design and development will be significant.
"I would say that in this high-tech scenario there is an important role for software and IT services," he added.
Life sciences and biotechnology are two areas that will definitely benefit from this, while niche industries such as video games may also profit.
These areas have real "synergy" between the UK's "excellence in creative industries and technological skill" and the crossover between IT and business services.
According to an economic forecast model developed by Nesta and Oxford Economics, one way forward would be to focus support on businesses by using small-scale private-sector based programmes that encourage high-growth, innovative businesses to develop.
