Construction jobs created by new government project
4 January 2010
Demand for those in
construction sales jobs may be set to increase following the launch of a large-scale government construction project.
Work has began on what is the largest council house building programme in almost two decades, with construction starting today (January 4th) at a site in Tyneside.
A total of £141 million is being invested by the government and housing minister John Healey said work will begin across the country "in the coming weeks".
Over five thousand construction jobs are to be created as a result of the move, the aim of which is to ease the waiting lists for council housing.
"The new building started today will help councils tackle the housing needs of their communities," Mr Healey remarked.
Last month, he announced that up to 12,000 building services jobs are to be created by the second phase of the Kickstart programme, a government initiative that aims to restart stalled construction projects.
