Housebuilding services 'need more funding'
13 January 2010
Building services jobs seekers may be encouraged to hear that one industry expert has claimed more funding needs to be provided for the construction of houses.
Head of communications at the Home Builders Federation (HBF) Steve Turner said that the sector faces a turbulent couple of years and should be supported by the government as much as possible.
"What we want to see continuing is this investment, because whilst we have seen a stabilisation, it is still very difficult for people to access housing," he said.
His comments followed an announcement by housing minister John Healey that Labour is doubling the cash available for the erection of new council properties.
This will amount to an additional £122.6 million for 73 local authorities across the whole of England.
Mr Turner welcomed the financing, but reaffirmed the requirement for more residences and suggested that between 200,000 and 250,000 domiciles a year are needed to fulfil demand.
