Building services market needs a "kick-start"

16 February 2010

Building services market needs a "kick-start"
Those in construction sales jobs have been told that the government needs to think of a number of ways of kick-starting the market.

Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), wants to see the private and public sector working together to develop funding avenues for projects - in order to build on the upturn that has been seen.

The Conservatives' idea of giving local authorities the greatest say is a good move, he remarked, but as it remains an untested theory everyone is still wondering how it might work in practice.

Mr Berry added the summer should bring greater "certainty and clarity", as once the general election was over policy could settle down and refocus on social housing.

His comments come after a recent poll by the FMB found that 18 per cent of companies surveyed expected their business to grow in the first quarter of 2010.
