Engineering jobs holders at BAE given award
14 December 2009
Engineering sales jobs seekers may be interested to learn that employees of BAE Systems have been received an industry accolade.
The firm's Glasgow specialists were given the automotive and marine award at the 2009 Engineer Technology & Innovation Awards.
According to the organisation, the personnel were recognised for their work on reducing the number of bumps arising in steel while making ships.
By developing a new system with the Universities of Strathclyde, Newcastle and Malta, the team was able to reduce straightening rework processes by 75 per cent during the Type 45 destroyers programme for the Royal Navy.
Chief executive of Scottish Engineering Peter Hughes said: "This is a wonderful example of a company working closely with academics to take forward excellent technology and thereby enhance the whole engineering sector."
BAE Systems recently announced the delivery of the second of six Type 45 destroyers to the Ministry of Defence during a ceremony at Portsmouth Naval Base.
