Power generation and transmission jobs to be created at E.ON wind farm?
11 January 2010
Those looking for engineering jobs in the power generation and transmission sector may be interested to learn that E.ON has been awarded an offshore wind farm plot off the Sussex coastline.
Entitled Zone 6, the area was awarded by The Crown Estate as part of its Round 3 offshore wind scheme.
Michael Lewis, European managing director of E.ON's renewables business, said it is "excellent news" for the organisation and proves its expertise in the industry.
He said: "'We were early pioneers in the area with the country's first offshore wind farm at Blyth and one of the first commercial scale schemes at Scroby Sands off Great Yarmouth."
Initiatives of this kind are becoming more and more prevalent as Britain attempts to reduce its impact on the environment, Mr Lewis explained.
According the company, engineering surveys are set to take place to measure the site's potential for generating energy.
E.ON recently announced that it is helping engineering apprentices in the West Midlands to secure jobs by providing grants to local enterprises that employ them.
