UK 'to become green industrial world leader'

Chris Hewett, associate at Green Alliance, noted that the skillset in the manufacturing industry already exists and there is the possibility of training more people for sector-specific jobs.
He added: "If this country is going to deliver the transition to reduce the carbon emissions … [then] the more of that manufacturing we can secure via our own workforce the better."
And Mr Hewett stated that the country has to take commercial advantage of the situation - with low-carbon vehicles and heat technologies both offering areas that can facilitate growth.
His comments come after a European Commission study found that in order to reach 2020 renewable target levels some 2.8 million jobs will have to be created in Britain, which will represent a 1.1 per cent increase in gross domestic product.
