Transferable skills 'could help sales job seekers'
15 March 2010
Sales job seekers should consider developing transferable skills to help them gain employment, one expert has suggested.
Darra Singh, chief executive of Jobcentre Plus, noted that an "increasingly flexible labour market" could see recruiters looking for individuals with talents that can be adapted from different sectors.
The introduction of pre-employment training for key areas can ensure potential employees have the right level of proficiency, he stated.
Mr Singh observed that by taking advantage of a "comprehensive package of support to help [them] find suitable candidates for their vacancies", firms can ensure that they find the best people for the job.
He added the days of people having one post for their whole working lives are gone, as "most of us will end up wanting or needing to switch careers at some point in our lives".
According to the Department for Work and Pensions, over two-thirds of those questioned by YouGov said they would consider a change in profession.
