Fitzwilliam Hospital Fitzwilliam Hospital Milton Way South Bretton Peterborough

So, there I was, wandering around Peterborough like a tourist in my own city, trying to find a place to get my knee checked. I'd been dodging potholes a bit too enthusiastically, and now my knee was paying the price. I'd heard whispers of this place called Fitzwilliam Hospital, but I'd never had the pleasure (or displeasure, as the case may be) of visiting it. I mean, who wants to go to a hospital if they don't have to, right?

Anyway, I finally found the place, tucked away on Milton Way South in Bretton. It's not the most glamorous part of town, but hey, hospitals aren't exactly known for their designer interiors. I parked up, took a deep breath, and headed in.

First Impressions

First thing that hit me was the smell. You know that hospital smell, right? It's a mix of disinfectant, old coffee, and a hint of something you can't quite put your finger on. It's not unpleasant, just... familiar. The place was buzzing, but not in a chaotic way. It was more like a well-oiled machine, with nurses and doctors bustling about, each with a purpose.

I checked in at the reception, and the lady behind the desk was friendly enough. She didn't try to sell me a timeshare or anything, which was a relief. She just smiled, asked me what was wrong, and sent me off to the waiting area.

Waiting is the Hardest Part

Now, I've been to hospitals before, and I know the drill. You wait. And wait. And wait some more. But Fitzwilliam wasn't so bad. The waiting area was clean, with comfortable chairs (as comfortable as hospital chairs can be, anyway), and there was even a TV in the corner. I mean, it wasn't showing anything interesting, but it was something to stare at while I waited.

I pulled out my phone, scrolled through my social media feeds, and before I knew it, my name was called. I know, right? I was expecting to be there all day, but it turns out, they'd had a cancellation. Lucky me!

Meet the Docs

I was seen by a doctor called Sarah. She was young, but she had a reassuring smile and a no-nonsense attitude. She listened to my story, examined my knee, and then sent me off for an X-ray. I was back in her office before I could say 'broken kneecap'.

Turns out, I'd just strained a ligament. Nothing too serious, but it was enough to make me walk like I'd been riding a horse for a week. Sarah gave me some exercises to do, told me to rest it for a few days, and sent me on my way with a prescription for some painkillers.

Not So Bad After All

So, there you have it. My first (and hopefully last) visit to Fitzwilliam Hospital. It wasn't the most exciting day I've had, but it could have been a lot worse. The staff were friendly, the place was clean, and I was in and out quicker than I expected.

I mean, I wouldn't go as far as to say I enjoyed my visit, but if you've got to go to a hospital, Fitzwilliam isn't a bad choice. Just don't go looking for a five-star dining experience, okay?

Anyway, I'm off to elevate my knee and watch some TV. Until next time, folks!
