Family Tree For Game Of Thrones

Okay, let’s be honest. Trying to follow the family trees in Game of Thrones is harder than explaining why you binge-watched the entire series in a weekend. You need a spreadsheet, a whiteboard, and probably a stiff drink. But seriously, who actually survived to pass on their legacy? Spoiler: not many.

The Starks: Wolves, Honor, and a Lot of Tragic Deaths

Start with the Starks. They’re the heart of Westeros, but also the punching bag. Ned and Catelyn had five kids: Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon. Plus Jon Snow, who’s technically Ned’s bastard... or is he? Oh, you know.

Robb was king for five minutes, then got murdered at a wedding. Not cool. Rickon zig-zagged when he should have zagged and got an arrow to the chest. Ouch. Bran became the Three-Eyed Raven, which is basically a tree with Wi-Fi.

Arya sailed west of Westeros, because why not? And Sansa finally became Queen in the North, which is honestly the best ending she could have hoped for after all that Joffrey nonsense. Good for her.

Jon Snow: The Black Sheep (Literally)

Jon Snow is the biggest twist in TV history. Turns out he’s not a Stark at all. He’s the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. That makes him heir to the Iron Throne. But instead of ruling, he stabs Daenerys and goes back to the Wall. Classic Jon.

The Stark tree is basically a gnarled, frozen mess. But it’s our mess. And we love them for it.

The Lannisters: Gold, Lions, and Family Dysfunction

Now the Lannisters. They’re rich, they’re blonde, and they have zero chill. Tywin Lannister had three kids: Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion. But here’s where it gets juicy.

Cersei and Jaime are twins. And they’re more than close. Like, very close. Their kids? Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen. All of them are products of incest. All of them die horribly. Oops.

Tyrion is the smart one. He’s got the best one-liners and a thing for whores. He kills his dad on the toilet. That’s not a joke—it’s a plot point. Peak Lannister.

The Lannister family tree is more like a tangled throne of lies. Cersei blows up the Great Sept. Jaime dies in a dragon explosion. Tyrion ends up as Hand of the King. Survivors: one.

The Targaryens: Fire, Blood, and Incest (Again)

Ah, the Targaryens. They’re the original drama family. They rode dragons, married siblings, and went mad. It’s a tradition. The family tree goes back to Aegon the Conqueror, but let’s cut to the recent mess.

Viserys Targaryen sold his sister Daenerys to a Dothraki warlord for an army. That worked out great for him, right? Nope. He got molten gold poured on his head. Daenerys hatched dragons, freed slaves, and then burned King’s Landing. You win some, you lose some.

Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen) is the last male heir. But he hates power. So the Targaryen line basically ends with a guy who prefers snow and ghosts. Thanks, Jon.

The Greyjoys: Iron, Salt, and Questionable Decisions

Let’s not forget the Greyjoys. They’re from the Iron Islands, where everyone is grumpy and worships the Drowned God. Balon Greyjoy had four kids: Rodrik, Maron, Asha (Yara), and Theon.

Rodrik and Maron died in a rebellion. Theon got captured by the Starks, then tortured by Ramsay Bolton. He lost some... parts. Yara became queen of the Ironborn, because she’s awesome. Balon? Thrown off a bridge by his own brother. Classy.

The Greyjoy tree is stunted and salty. But it’s got some strong women.

The Boltons: Flaying and Bad Vibes

The Boltons are the worst neighbors. Roose Bolton was calculating and creepy. His son Ramsay? Pure evil. He flayed people, hunted women, and tortured Theon. Not a family you invite to dinner.

Roose had a legitimate son who died as a baby. So Ramsay killed his dad and stepmom. Then Ramsay got eaten by his own dogs. Karma is a hungry hound. The Bolton tree is gone. Good riddance.

The Tyrells: Roses, Plots, and Explosions

The Tyrells are the fancy family. Mace Tyrell was a blowhard. His mother Olenna was a total boss. She orchestrated Joffrey’s murder with a poisoned necklace. Iconic. Margaery was the queen who played the game. She married three kings! Talk about a résumé.

But Cersei blew them all up with wildfire. The entire Tyrell line went up in green flames. Poof. The roses wilted fast.

The Baratheons: Stags, Storms, and Drunk Kings

The Baratheons started with Robert. He was a drunk who loved war and whores. His “official” kids (Joffrey, Myrcella, Tommen) were Lannisters. His brothers Stannis and Renard fought for the throne. Stannis burned his daughter alive. Yikes. Renly got killed by a shadow baby. Yes, a shadow baby.

The Baratheon line is basically extinct. Gendry, Robert’s bastard, becomes lord of Storm’s End. So the stag lives on, but barely.

The Martells: Snakes and Revenge Plots

Finally, the Martells from Dorne. Prince Doran wanted peace, but his brother Oberyn was all about vengeance. Oberyn fought the Mountain. He lost. His head exploded. His bastard daughters, the Sand Snakes, took over. They all died too.

The Martell tree is a cactus in the desert. Spiky, but short-lived.

So, What’s the Point?

Look, the Game of Thrones family tree is a bloody mess. But that’s why we love it. It’s a soap opera with swords, dragons, and dead kids. If you want to keep track, grab a napkin and a crayon. Or just Google it. We won’t judge.

Just remember: in Westeros, family means someone will probably stab you. Cheers to that.
